The Department of Child Development and Family Studies at Seoul National University focuses on human development across the life span and diverse aspects of family life. We underscore both theoretical and practical approaches that support healthy human development and enhance the well-being of children and families.
Our undergraduate curriculum consists of five tracks: (1) developmental studies, (2) contents development, (3) counseling and intervention, (4) public policy, and (5) research and data analysis. The undergraduate program offers coursework related to child development, child welfare, child counseling, family relations, aging families, family policy, family life education, and family therapy. We also provide students with a practicum opportunity at SNU Center for Child Educare Service and Research, the Gwanak-gu Family Center, and other public and private organizations.
Our graduate program in child development and family studies offers master’s degrees, PhDs, and combined master’s and doctoral degrees. The graduate program has two concentrations: child development and family studies. We conduct world-class research that contributes to solving practical problems and preventing problems by promoting the strengths of individuals and families and improving the quality of life through education, counseling, and policies. The programs prepare students to become professionals in child development, child welfare, early childhood education and care, family research, family theory, gerontology, family policy, and family life education.
