Multiple Majors & Teacher Certification
Application for “Multiple Majors (Double Majors and Minors)”
- The term “multiple majors” refers collectively to the completion of either double majors or minors.
- Students may apply for up to three multiple majors(i.e., majors or minors) per semester, and the total number of multiple majors students can complete is limited to six per person.
(Policy effective since the fall semester of the 2020 academic year)
Double Major in Department of Child Development and Family Studies
- A double major refers to the completion of two or more academic programs, including the primary major within a student’s home department or college.
- When a student completes a double major, this achievement is officially recorded on both the diploma and the academic transcript. However, a separate diploma is not issued for each completed major.
Example:
The student has fulfilled all degree requirements for both the Department of Child Development and Family Studies (College of Human Ecology) and the Department of International Relations (College of Social Sciences), and has passed all required examinations and thesis evaluations. As such, the student is conferred the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
- Requirements for Declaring Child Development and Family Studies as a Double Major
- Students wishing to declare Department of Child Development and Family Studies as a double major must fulfill the following requirements:
- – Completion of at least 39 credits in Department of Child Development and Family Studies major courses
(Note: The course “Human Ecology Freshman Seminar” (formerly “Introduction to Human Ecology”) does not count toward the 39-credit requirement.)
- – Submission of an undergraduate thesis
- – Mandatory enrollment in the course “Thesis Writing in Department of Child Development and Family Studies” (Course is offered during the spring semester only and a requirement for students admitted since 2018)
A minor refers to the completion of at least 21 credits in an academic field outside the student’s primary major or department.
Upon successful completion of a minor, this achievement is officially noted on both the diploma and the academic transcript.
However, a separate diploma is not awarded for each minor completed.Example:
The student has completed all requirements for the Department of Department of Child Development and Family Studies (College of Human Ecology), with a minor in Business Administration. The student has also passed the required thesis and examinations and is therefore conferred the degree of Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology.
- Requirements for Completing a Minor in Child development and Family Studies Studies.
- To complete a minor in Child Development and Family Studies , students must meet the following requirement:
- – Complete at least 24 credits in Department of Child Development and Family Studies major courses
(Note: The course “Human Ecology Freshman Seminar” (formerly “Introduction to Human Ecology”) does not count toward the 24-credit requirement.)
Double Major / Minor in
Other Departments
- Students majoring in Child Development and Family Studies who wish to pursue a double major or minor in another department or college must refer to the specific requirements of the corresponding college or academic unit.

Teachers-Training Program for Home Economics
- Students may qualify for the Level 2 Secondary School Teacher Certification in Home Economics by completing the designated teaching certification program within the department of Child Development and Family Studies major.
- This certification allows candidates to apply for the National Secondary School Teacher Examination (for Home Economics) and to pursue teaching positions at private middle and high schools.
Application Period:
Late March to mid-April each year
Eligibility:
Open to second-year students only (Students in their second semester or those who have completed five or more semesters are not eligible)
Completion Requirements:
(1) At least 50 credits in Child Development and Family Studies major courses
(60 credits required for students in the intensive major track)
(2) At least 22 credits in teaching certification courses
(3) Successful completion of the Teacher Aptitude and Disposition Assessment
Annual Admission Limit:
Up to 2 students per year
