Undergraduate Events

The Department of Child Development and Family Studies hosts and supports a variety of events to help undergraduate students develop the competencies they need as future professionals in the field.

Undergraduate Symposium

Each year, a team of undergraduate students—primarily in their second and third years—is formed to conduct in-depth research on topics related to Child Development and Family Studies, culminating in the presentation of their findings at the Undergraduate Symposium. The symposium team develops creative research topics based on issues in Korean society, carries out surveys and in-depth interviews, analyzes the data, and collaborates as a team to draw conclusions. By experiencing the entire research process under the guidance of a faculty advisor, students strengthen their competencies as future scholars in the field of Child Development and Family Studies.

Past Undergraduate Symposium topics can be found [here].

Practicum in Educare

In this course, students participate as prospective childcare teachers at the Seoul National University Childcare Center, engaging with young children of various age groups to deepen their understanding of childcare. This practicum is a required course for obtaining the Childcare Teacher Certificate (Level 2), a nationally issued credential, and offers a hands-on opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting.

Students also gain firsthand experience with the center’s unique, child-led educational approach known as “Theme Exploration and Expression Activities,” further developing their professional competencies as childcare teachers.
