The Child Counseling & Special Children Development Lab has redefined its research philosophy and direction under a new English name, SPECTRUM Lab.

SPECTRUM stands for Special Education & Translational Research for Universal Design and Inclusive Minds, reflecting the lab’s core commitment to inclusive developmental research that respects the diversity and potential of all children.

The lab conducts educational and practice-oriented research on the developmental challenges and disabilities encountered across infancy, childhood, and adolescence, as well as the lived experiences of families navigating these processes.

In particular, the lab is dedicated to moving beyond deficit-based models in special education by advancing research that embraces disability as diversity—recognizing disability as a natural and valuable dimension of human development.

SPECTRUM Lab also engages with early childhood development in the context of international development cooperation, contributing to the creation of inclusive developmental environments in low-resource settings. This includes the localization of developmental assessments, the design of early intervention strategies, and the development of culturally responsive educational programs tailored to specific community needs.

Through these efforts, the lab aims to realize translational research that bridges academic theory and on-the-ground practice—creating knowledge that is both rigorous and impactful across local and global contexts.
